Where are you going first? This is probably the most common follow-up question we get after we’ve told someone about our trip. The answer to that question has been evolving and may still change again before we leave in early April.
We have a few commitments early in our trip. Sarah’s youngest sister’s birthday is at the end of April, that’s Destination Goal #1. Then my nephew is graduating high school in Iowa, so we’ll be there the 3rd week of May, then back to Colorado for a cousin’s graduation on Memorial Day weekend. After that we plan to meet up with Sarah’s older sister and family in Lake Tahoe in late July.
We’ve already had to decline invitations from people to meet them in certain places. Our Curiodyssey route could easily end up looking like a star shape on the map with frequent returns to Colorado and Iowa if we’re not careful!
When we leave home we’ll spend a couple nights at Great Sand Dunes National Park (if it’s not too cold and snowy). Then we’ll head into New Mexico to visit Taos, the Turquoise Trail, White Sands, Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns, and then into Texas to see Guadalupe Mountains, the McDonald Observatory, and Big Bend National Park. Then we’ll head to San Antonio for Sarah’s sister’s birthday. That’s about 3 weeks.
Here’s the rough map of Chapter 1. That’s where we’re going first.
